The Yellowjacket men's cross country team competed at the Brooks Invitational on Saturday. Traditionally one of the largest meets in the Midwest, the 2011 version was even bigger than normal, as the host course, Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis., is also the host of the 2011 NCAA Championships. This means that anyone who may have a shot at reaching the final weekend of the NCAA season was likely there, taking part. A total of 47 men's teams raced on Saturday, with nearly 500 runners involved. As a team, the Yellowjackets came home in 43rd place.
Division III powerhouse North Central College of Illinois was the top men's team, finishing with just 49 points and placing four runners in the top ten. Junior Tim Nelson of UW-Stout won the men's race with a time of 24:46.
For the Yellowjackets, Scott Behling (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) (Duluth, Minn.) was the top finisher, completing the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27:01, which placed him 162nd in the massive field. The next closest Yellowjacket was freshman Andy Kast (Andover, Minn./Andover) (Andover, Minn.), who was more than two minutes behind Behling.
