Men's Soccer Recruit: John Little

John Little

Yellowjacket men's soccer coach Joe Mooney has announced his second recruiting commitment for the 2012-13 season, and for the second time this off-season he has dipped into a familiar player pool to bring in talent.  John Little, a three-year letterwinner who played forward and midfield at Wayzata (Minn.) High School, has given the Yellowjackets a verbal commitment.  He joins another former Wayzata Trojan, Karl Schmidtke, who verbally committed to the Yellowjackets last week.

Schmidtke and Little are also teammates with the premier club of the Plymouth Soccer Association (PSA), their club team.

"We are very comfortable recruiting players from PSA, as is evidenced by the number of those players on our roster," Mooney said.  "We know what we're getting from that program and like what those players have been able to do within our program."

The Yellowjackets lose three starting attackers from last year's team, and Little will be looked at as one of the players who can help fill the void.

"On the field John is very dangerous with the service he can provide and is a powerful threat on set pieces.  I'm excited about what John can do," Mooney said.  "He brings a lot of speed along with an innate attacking sense that should fit very well into our system.

"John will have an equal contribution off the field as well.  He's a great kid and will be a perfect fit with the culture of our team."

For Little, his college choice was all about finding the right fit, and no place was a better fit than UW-Superior.

"My decision to attend UW-Superior was based on a good balance between the academic and soccer programs there," Little said.  "I'm looking forward to life on campus and playing soccer for the Yellowjackets."

Familiar faces can't hurt either, as the number of PSA alumni on the 2012 Yellowjacket roster will number six.  In addition to Little and Schmidtke, Chase Carey (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), #J.D. Wadsen and (Joinville, Brazil/North Collins High School)Matt Kelley# all came up through the PSA program.
