Meet Results

The Yellowjacket women's cross country team hit the course for its second meet of the season Saturday, competing at St. Olaf College's Invitational in Northfield, Minnesota. The 20-team field was loaded with strong NCAA Division II and Division III competition, and gave the Yellowjackets a good standard to measure themselves by in the early stages of the season.

"This is one of those events that I like to get my team into every year because there is always a lot of good talent here," Yellowjacket Head Coach Glen Drexler said. "It gives us a good indication of where we are and what we need to do to improve to get to where we want to be. And for our women's team, I liked what I saw today. Everyone who competed on this course previously improved on their time here, so I'm happy with what we got out of today."

The University of Minnesota Duluth won the event, finishing with 50 points. Second place went to Northfield's Carleton College, which came in with 72 points. The hosts from St. Olaf were third, finishing the day with 104 points. The Yellowjackets placed 16th on the day.

Individually, the champion on the women's sode was Ruth Steinke of Carleton, who won the race with a time of 22:03.8.

The top Yellowjacket finisher was freshman Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan), who placed 30th with a time of 23:54.

"There were a lot of runners on the course today, and you can see by the times that there was a big group up in the front," Drexler said. "Kelli wasn't far off the pace and placed 30th. That gives you an idea of not only the number of runners but the quality of runners, and for most of the race she was right in the thick of things.

Next among Yellowjackets was senior Jackie Erickson (Duluth, Minn./East), who finished the six-kilometer course with a time of 26:14.2.
