Lindquist, Wisconsin-Superior claim first UMAC men's cross country title (Oct. 29, 2016)
With an individual time of 25:44, University of Wisconsin Superior senior
Jackson Lindquist (Carlton, Minn./Esko H.S.) has claimed the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference individual title and led the Yellowjackets to a first-place team finish at Saturday's UMAC Men's Cross Country Championship hosted by the University of Minnesota Morris at Benson Golf Club in Benson, Minnesota.
UW-Superior finished in three of the top five positions on the day, running away with the team championship with a low score of 42 (determined by top five individual finishes) while second-place Martin Luther saw its top finishers combine for 57 points. Lindquist's time of 25:43.5 was 16 seconds shy of his personal-best set last time out but enough to defeat second-place finisher Chalmer Combellick by nearly 23 seconds. Junior
Jordan Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon H.S.) also had his second-best time of the season to finish fourth at 26:44.1 while freshman
Harrison Hirsch (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View H.S.) took 30 seconds off his career-best run with a time of 26:46.5, good for fifth place on the day.
Sophomore
Rand Bieri (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.) finished 15th setting a new career-best mark with a time of 27:35.2 while sophomore Zach Mazurek chopped 35 seconds off his PR time finishing 17th at 27:44.6.
UP NEXT
With their first UMAC championship in tow, the Yellowjackets eye the NCAA Regional Championships meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Northfield, Minnesota hosted by Carleton College. UW-Superior previously ran at Carleton's "Running of the Cows" earlier this year in preparation for the meet, placing Lindquist and Koski in the top-25 at the regional preview race. Opening gun is set for 12:30 p.m. in two weeks.
