St. Scholastica, Hovland cruise to UMAC women's cross country title (Oct. 29, 2016)
The University of Wisconsin Superior finished fourth as a team and sophomore
Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) was sixth individually at Saturday's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships race hosted by the University of Minnesota Morris at Benson Golf Club in Benson, Minnesota.
The College of St. Scholastica claimed the UMAC Championship crown by placing its top runners first, second, and third on the day, followed by the University of Minnesota Morris, Bethany Lutheran College, and UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets placed three in the top-25 and five in the top-30 for an upper echelon finish on the day.
Praska paced UWS as she has all season, finishing with a season-best time of 24:05.8 on the rainy course and a top-ten finish. Junior Alyssa Boyhtari just missed a spot in the top ten, finishing 11th with a time of 24:42.6, taking 59 seconds off of her previous career-best on a 6k course. First-year Yellowjacket
Anna Kalin (Maple, Wis./Northwestern H.S.) also took a huge chunk off of her collegiate best finishing 21st with a time of 25:39.6, 35 seconds better than her PR set last time out.
Freshman
Michaela Ruhman (Brule, Wis./Northwestern) and sophomore
Ali Manthey (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River) rounded out UW-Superior's representation in the top 30, finishing 28th and 30th overall and 26th and 27th in team scoring. Ruhman's time of 25:55.1 was 33 seconds better than her previous PR, while Manthey finished with a time of 26:02.3, her best of the season.
