Yellowjacket Soccer Going to the Dogs

The Yellowjacket Soccer Complex is going to the dogs Saturday, October 15.

Both the Yellowjacket men's and women's soccer teams are at home that day as they host Martin Luther College, and fans attending are not only permitted, but encouraged to bring their dogs to the games as part of Dogtoberfest. Yellowjacket Athletics is partnering with the Humane Society of Douglas County (HSDC) to make the day a special one for our four-legged friends.

"For many years fans have attended our outdoor games, whether that be soccer, baseball, or softball and have brought their dogs to be part of it," said Nick Bursik, interim athletics director at UW-Superior. "This is a day for us to celebrate our pets and to try and do something good for the humane society and the animals that are currently up for adoption."

All dogs in attendance will receive treats, and the first 50 dogs will receive a free gift courtesy of Yellowjacket Athletics. One lucky dog will also go home with a Yellowjacket gift basket containing treats, chew toys, and pet care products. HSDC will be on hand to provide information on pet adoption, microchipping, and to collect supplies and donations.

Fill the Van: Yellowjacket Athletics is asking fans attending the matches to please make a donation, whether that be monetary or with supplies, to HSDC. Purina Dog Chow, Puppy Chow, Cat Chow, and Kitten Chow are just a few of the items that HSDC is in constant need of. A full list of supplies needed by HSDC is available here.

"I've been amazed at the generosity of our fan base over the years. When we have fundraising events, whether they are for our department or for an outside group, people always step up and do their best to make a difference and support the cause," Bursik said. "This is no different. My hope is that people coming to the matches will do what they can to help fill the van with food and other pet supplies for HSDC."

Fans bringing dogs to the matches are reminded that their pets must be leashed at all times while on campus, and that they will be required to clean up after their pets.
