Meet Results - Women

A few select members of the Yellowjacket track and field teams were in action Friday when they traveled to St. Paul, Minn. to take part in The Showcase that was hosted by the University of St. Thomas. The meet is very prestigious, and could be considered a mid-season NCAA qualifier.

The men's side saw many good performances, with none more impressive than Charles Corbett (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon). Corbett destroyed his 5,000-meter run school record by posting a time of 14:40.41, which beats his previous record of 15:11.26 by over 30 seconds. The time was also good enough to place Corbett sixth overall in the race, and fifth amongst NCAA runners. Corbett also raced himself up the national standings, as he is now in the top-12 for NCAA DIII at the event.

Jackson Lindquist (Thomson, Minn./Esko) also ran the 5,000-meter run, coming in with a very respectable time for 15:29.85, which placed him 21st overall.

Thomas Udenberg (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) took fourth in the shot put event. Udenberg came in with a throw of 52 feet, 3.25 inches (15.93 meters) to place fourth overall. The throw puts Udenberg within shouting distance of the indoor school record of 55 feet, 10 inches (17.01 meters) set by Doug Sutherland in 1970.

Tony Willete and Thomas Fleming (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) both made it to the finals in the weight throw, finishing in eight and ninth respectively.

On the women's side Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg) continued her strong start to the season. Ruehl placed second in the long jump event, coming in with a top jump of 17 feet, 7 inches (5.36 meters) Ruehl just missed out on first place, coming only 1.25 inches (0.03 meters) short of the event win.

Ruehl wasn't the only Yellowjacket to have success at the meet. Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) showed that she is just starting to come into her own during the 800-meter run. Praska got stuck running in the slower heat, but showed no ill effects of the placement, as she finished third overall with a time of 2:17.58. Praska is currently the 26th ranked 800-meter runner in the nation in DIII.

"All in all it was a good day for us in a very tough, very stacked meet." Coach Glen Drexler said. "I look forward to see how we will do tomorrow at our home meet."

The Yellowjackets will be in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 13 when they host the Yellowjacket Open at the Lydia S. Thering Fieldhouse. The field will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the track events starting at noon.
