The Yellowjacket women's track and field team was in action Saturday to take part in the Yellowjacket Open. The meet is the second of three meets that the Yellowjackets will be hosting this season.

The home field advantage showed for the Yellowjackets on Saturday, as they finished with two first place finishes on the day.

The first victory came in record setting fashion from Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan), who absolutely destroyed her competition in the mile. Praska finished with a time of 5:11.47, which beat the second place runner by nearly seven full seconds. The time also established a new indoor mile record for the Yellowjackets, as Praska bested Katee Rosburg's old record of 5:11.61 set in 2008.

The second Yellowjacket victory on the day came from Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg). Ruehl continued her strong start to the season by setting a new personal record in the long jump, coming in with a top jump of 18 feet, 3 inches (5.56 meters). The jump narrowly missed the school record for indoor long jump, which is 18 feet, 9.75 inches set by Sarah Moravchik in 2002.

Ruehl also had a strong day on the track, finishing third overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.49. The time place Ruehl behind only two DII runners.

Alissa Boyhtari (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) placed third in the 800-meter run, coming in with a time of 2:32.87. Coming in right behind her was teammate Michaela Ruhman (Brule, Wis./Northwestern), who placed fifth with a time of 2:33.79.

The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Praska Boyhtari, Ruhman, and Cheyenne Hirdler (Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka) also had a strong showing at the meet, coming in fourth place with a time of 4:36.61.

Emily Gibson-Treptow (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) tied for fourth in the high jump with a top jump of 4 feet, 11 inches (1.50 meters).

Taylor Phillips (Superior, Wis./Superior) came in third place in the shot put, finishing with a top throw of 39 feet, 5.25 inches (12.02 meters). Phillips placed second amongst NCAA participants. Phillips also placed sixth in the weight throw, finishing with a top throw of 40 feet, 6.75 inches (12.36 meters). She placed behind only DII athletes.

Next up for the Yellowjackets will be a road trip to Bemidji, Minn. Friday, February 19 to take part in the BSU Twilight meet.
