Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) helped lead the University of Wisconsin Superior to its first winning streak since the start of the season as the Yellowjackets took two over the weekend at home, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognized it Wednesday by selecting him as the WIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week.
Svensson posted a pair of multi-point games in UW-Superior's (6-11-1) two wins in non-conference play over the weekend. Against Gustavus Adolphus College on Jan. 13, he scored a goal in the second period and in the third period assisted on the game-winning goal as the Yellowjackets won at home, 5-3. In a 4-1 victory over Bethel University on Jan. 14, Svensson scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winning goal midway through the third period. He had a team-high 10 shots on goal against Bethel and had 14 shots on goal in the two games.
UP NEXT
Svensson and UW-Superior will be off for 10 days before they return to Wessman Arena next week. The Yellowjackets will take on the No. 4 University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in non-conference action next Tuesday, Jan. 24. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. in Superior.
