The University of Wisconsin Superior fell in its bridge rivalry game against the College of St. Scholastica, opening the second half of its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference season falling 83-65 to the Saints on Saturday afternoon in Duluth, Minnesota.
The two teams traded buckets early, each shooting better than their season averages in the early going of the opening half, but UW-Superior (2-12, 1-5 UMAC) would slow down and trail by eight at the break as St. Scholastica (7-7, 4-2 UMAC) finished the first half with a 45-37 advantage after shooting 51.5 percent (17-of-33). Each team knocked down four three-pointers in the first half, but the Saints had the advantage going to the free throw line on 10 occasions for seven points while the Yellowjackets were just 3-for-4 at the charity stripe. UWS knocked down 15-of-35 shots overall (42.9 percent) and also had a 19-18 advantage in rebounds at the break, but turned the ball over six times compared to a tidy three by CSS.
The Saints opened the second half on a 13-2 run over the first 6:48 of the second half before sophomore guard
Trevor Oswald (Isle, Minn./Isle H.S.) knocked down a shot to break up the run for the Yellowjackets. UW-Superior would slow the Saints' pace, but St. Scholastica would keep the Yellowjackets at arm's length the rest of the way, eventually holding on for the 18-point victory. Junior guard
Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East H.S.) led UWS with 15 points in the game while freshman forward
Rafael Monteiro (São Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina College) and sophomore

Collin Anderson had a game-high 16 points for St. Scholastica. The Yellowjackets finished the game shooting 40.9 percent (27-of-66) but could not slow St. Scholastica, who finished the game at an even 50.0 percent (33-of-66).
