UMAC Player of the Week Awards - March 27, 2017
A pair of University of Wisconsin Superior softball rookies have earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards this season as first-year right-handed pitcher
Megan Pehrson (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids H.S.) was named the UMAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Joining her former Grand Rapids High School teammate
Bailey Kinnunen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids H.S.) named UMAC Player of the Week earlier this month, the Yellowjacket rookie took the hill in five games for UW-Superior (7-8) last week at the Gene Cusic Classic in southwest Florida. Last Monday, Pehrson suffered her lone defeat of the week, allowing three earned runs in 5.0 innings of work against Manchester (Ind.) University, striking out two. Tuesday, she came on in relief, throwing 5.2 shutout innings, adding two strikeouts while scattering six hits. She picked up a victory Thursday in a rematch with Manchester, working a complete game effort while striking out three while allowing three earned runs on nine hits. Friday, she struck out two in an exhibition contest against South Western Florida State College.
