Meet Results

It may only be December, but the track and field season is upon us.  The Yellowjacket men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2012-13 season on the weekend, taking part The Opener across the river at the College of St. Scholastica.

And for the Yellowjacket women, the opening to 2012-13 had a striking resemblance to the end of 2011-12.  In other words, the Yellowjacket throwers were leading the way.

Katie Capriglione (Culver, Minn./Albrook), who qualified for outdoor nationals in 2011 is making a strong push for indoor nationals in 2013.  At The Opener, Capriglione set a pair of school records and now finds herself nationally ranked.  In the weight throw, she bettered her previous mark, set in 2011, by over a half meter.  Capriglione took home first place with a throw of 16.89 meters (55 feet, 5 inches).  The mark is currently second in NCAA Division III.

Capriglione also took first place and set a school record in the shot put, with a heave of 13.15 meters (43 feet, 1.75 inches).  The old record - 12.08 meters was also set by Capriglione in 2012.  Capriglione also sits second nationally in the shot put.

Right behind Capriglione is Vicki Vinokur (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove).  Vinokur took second in the weight throw and the shot put, with throws of 14.75 meters (48 feet, 4.75 inches) and 12.90 meters (42 feet, 4 inches), respectively.  Vinokur is currently ranked ninth in the weight throw and third in the shot put among NCAA Division III throwers.

Freshman Jackie Erickson (Duluth, Minn./East) had a top-ten finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 28.60 seconds.  The Yellowjackets had three women crack the top ten in the 3,000 meter run.  Kate Weyenberg (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) placed fourth with a time of 12:23.83.  Right behind her was Kayla Gibson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes), who placed sixth with a time of 12:25.43 and Kristina Bucholz (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) finished ninth with a time of 13:23.98.

Emily Gibson-Treptow (Oconto, Wis./) brought home a ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.37 meters (4 feet, 6 inches).

The Yellowjackets are now off until January 19, when they will travel to Bemidji, Minn. to compete in the Beaver Open, hosted by Bemidji State University.
