Meet Results

The Yellowjacket women's track and field were in action Saturday as they traveled to Menomonie, Wis. to take part in the Warren Bowlus Open. The meet is considered to be one of the biggest early season meets in the area, with many top schools showing up to compete.

Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg) came out right away and showed that the Yellowjackets can compete with anyone. Ruehl won the long jump even, by jumping a new personal best of 17-feet 7.5-inches (5.37 meters). Ruehl's jump bested many competitors from not only the DIII level, but also DII. The jump also puts her on top of the UMAC standings in women's long jump and 20th overall in the nation at the DIII level.

Ruehl also had a good day on the track, finishing third in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.67

Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) wasn't about to let Ruehl steal all the glory on the day. Praska won the 800-meter run by a landslide, coming in with a time of 2:20.28, which beat the second place finisher by nearly three full seconds. What may have been even more impressive about Praska's run was that she beat many runners who entered the day ranked higher than her in the 800.

Other top Yellowjacket finishers include the 4x400-meter relay team of Jackie Erickson (Duluth, Minn./East), Kaitlyn Knutson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet), Alissa Boyhtari (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), and Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan). That group finished the race third overall with a time of 4:13.06. Taylor Phillips (Superior, Wis./Superior) placed eight in the shot put with a throw of 37-feet 8-inches (11.48 meters).

By the time the meet was over the Yellowjackets had 14 new personal records to go with a couple of wins.

"It was a heck of a day against some stiff competition." Coach Glen Drexler said. "We came out and showed that we can compete against anybody today."

Next up for the Yellowjackets is a trip to Duluth, Minn. on Saturday, February 6 to take part in the Lake Superior Challenge.
