St. Scholastica "The Opener" Results (12/3/2016)
The University of Wisconsin Superior impressed across the bridge at Saturday's indoor track & field "Opener" hosted by the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. The Yellowjackets took home a pair of first-place finishes in a field featuring several schools from NCAA II as well as a number of top-five and top-ten finishes where UWS finished top among Division III teams.

Alex Fathie (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall H.S.) got the day started for UW-Superior on the track with a first-place finish in the 600-meter run, finishing with a personal record just shy of the program record with a time of 1:25.46. Freshman
Spencer Sutton (Minocqua, Wis./Lakeland Union H.S.) debuted with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, breaking a near-10-year-old school record (2007) with a time of 0:23.18. Sophomore
Zach Mazurek (Bessemer, Mich./Bessemer H.S.) finished first amongst Division-III runners just behind three from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a fourth-place finisher in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:33.82. Aaron Gehrke (Phillips, Wis./Phillips H.S.), freshman
Michael McCrady (Montgomery, Minn./Tri City United H.S.), and sophomore Alex Dizonski finished with a time of 3:32.70.
In the field, McCrady finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.91 meters, just behind five from UMD and one from Copper Country TC. Senior
Nate Welty (Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice H.S.) finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.68 meters. Senior
Thomas Udenberg (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.) finished second in the shot put with a toss of 14.51 meters, just ahead of sophomore
C.J. Pillath (Coleman, Wis./Coleman H.S.) who finished third at 14.12 meters. Pillath would finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 15.76 meters, while senior
Tommy Fleming (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake H.S.) finished third at 15.49 meters.
