4-x-1600-Meter Relay Team Breaks School Record

Kelli Praska, Ali Manthey, Kalley Wilkie, and Alissa Boyhtari set a new school record in the 4x1600 meter relay Saturday.

The Yellowjackets women's track and field team was in action Saturday as they participated in the second meet of the outdoor season. This meet saw the Yellowjackets travel to Decorah, Iowa to take part in the Norse Relays, as they looked to continue to improve on the early stages of the outdoor season.

This meet belonged to the Yellowjacket 4x1600-meter relay team, as both team ran times that set new school records. The team of Michaela Ruhman (Brule, Wis./Northwestern), Sara Schield (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors), Selina Walthers, and Taylor Joyal (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge) finished the relay with a time of 25:12.96 to first establish the school record in the event. That record was short lived however, as the team of Alissa Boyhtari (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), Kalley Wilkie (Hayward, Wis./Hayward), Ali Manthey (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River), and Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) finished with a time of 23:34.23 to become the new school record holders in the event.

The Yellowjacket hurdlers were not to be outdone however. Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg) carried over her indoor success to the outdoor track, as she finished third overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.44. Valerie Rowe (Ironwood, Mich./Bessemer) was determined not to be outdone by her teammate in the hurdles, as she finished fourth overall in the 400-meter hurdles. Rowe finished with a time of 1:11.22.

The Hurdlers were not the only top finishers on the day for the Yellowjackets, as they took second and third in the High Jump. Emily Gibson-Treptow (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) finished with a tip jump of 4 feet, 7 inches (1.40 meters) to finish second. Teammate Carsen Wetzel (Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown) had a top jump of 4 feet, 5 inches (1.35 meters) to take third.

Other top Yellowjacket finishers include Rowe, who took fourth in the pole vault, with a top vault of 8 feet, 6.25 inces (2.60 meters). The 4x100-meter relay team of Jackie Erickson (Duluth, Minn./East), Kaitlyn Knutson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet), Rowe, and Ruehl finished second overall with a time of 52.46. The 4x400-meter relay team of Erickson, Amanda Fosberg (Minong, Wis./Northwood), Knutson, and Rowe finished fourth overall with a time of 4:30.17. Taylor Phillips (Superior, Wis./Superior) finished fifth in the shot put, with a top throw of 37 feet, 11.25 inches (11.56 meters).

Next up for the Yellowjackets is a trip to St. Paul, Minn. to take part in the Holst Invitation hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. The meet is set to take place Saturday, April 16.
