Super 8 Open Women's Results (1/14/2017)
Sophomore
Valerie Rowe (Ironwood, Mich./A.D. Johnston H.S.) leapt to a first-place finish in the pole vault while posting a pair of personal-best times in on the track as the University of Wisconsin Superior opened the 2017 portion of its indoor schedule at Bemidji State University's Super 8 Open on Saturday afternoon.
Rowe would claim first place for the Yellowjackets with a leap of 2.74 meters in the pole vault, just 0.03 meters off her personal best jump. On the track, she set a pair of PR times while finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 0:09.86, good for second place behind Hannah Russert of the College of St. Scholastica, who finished at 0:09.54. Rowe finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a PR of 0:27.67, just a step behind freshman teammate
Leann Torgerson (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors H.S.) who also set a personal-best time at 0:27.55 in the event.
Elsewhere on the track, the Yellowjacket 4x400 relay team of Torgerson, junior
Kaitlyn Knutson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.), freshman
Mikaela Shepard (Blaine, Minn./Blaine H.S.), and sophomore
Kelli Praska (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) finished second with a team time of 4:28.35. The hosts from Bemidji State took the gold in the event with a time of 4:16.55. Freshman
Anna Kalin (Maple, Wis./Northwestern H.S.) finished second in the 1,000-meter Run with a time of 3:50.91. Amber Posner of the University of Jamestown took home the honors with a time of 3:19.79.
In the field, sophomore
Taylor Phillips (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) tossed her way to a third-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.18 meters. She trailed only Bemidji State's Savannah Olson and Valley City State University's Seri Geisler. Olson took the top spot at 12.79 meters.
