The University of Wisconsin Superior continues to put together strong performances in the early season and for the second time in three weeks saw its athletes honored by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, as sophomore
Valerie Rowe (Ironwood, Mich./A.D. Johnston H.S.) and junior
Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg) earned the titles of UMAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
At Saturday's Twin Ports Invitational, Rowe was the winner of the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 28.81 seconds. She was also part of the Yellowjacket 4x200-meter relay team along with junior
Kaitlyn Knutson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.) and first-year runners
Mikaela Shepard (Blaine, Minn./Blaine H.S.), and
Leann Torgerson (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors H.S.) that placed fourth, and the sprint medley relay team with Shepard, Knutson, and senior
Alissa Boyhtari (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld H.S.) that finished second.
Against a strong Division II and Division III field in Superior on Saturday, Ruehl, in her first competition of the year earned a first-place finish in the long jump, hitting a mark of 5.29 meters which set a new meet record and was the best in the conference.

UW-Superior will compete at the Warren Bowlus Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout next Saturday. The event is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
