UMAC Men's Track & Field Awards (May 10, 2017)

The University of Wisconsin Superior cruised to an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championship over the weekend, and rightfully so, the Yellowjackets earned the most All-UMAC selections (10) of any team while senior Alex Fathie (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall H.S.) repeated his performance from the indoor season as the UMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Meet.

Fathie earned championship finishes in three events - the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes as well as anchoring UW-Superior's champion 4-by-400-meter relay team. He was also part of the Yellowjackets' second-place 4-by-100-meter relay team and finished sixth in the 100-meter dash individually. UWS also boasts the league's Coach of the Year in Glen Drexler.

Joining Fathie in the All-Conference selections are sophomores Rand Bieri (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.), Alex Dzikonski (South Range, Wis./Superior H.S.), Christian Pillath, Isaac Staat (Albert Lea, Minn./Homeschool), and Matt Swanson (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.); juniors Jordan Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon H.S.) and Noah Potratz (Ripon, Wis./Ripon H.S.); and seniors Thomas Udenberg (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet H.S.) and Evan Walpole (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior H.S.). Bieri, Dzikonski, and Swanson joined Fathie on the champion 4-by-400 relay. Walpole, Staat, Bieri, and Swanson also earned championship finishes in the 4-by-800-meter relay. Bieri also earned a championship in the 400-meter hurdles and Dzikonski in the long jump. Pillath finished first in the hammer throw and third in the shot put, while Udenberg finished second in the shot and discus and third in the hammer.

North Central University thrower Grahm Johnson was named the Field Athlete of the Meet. Junior Joe Olinger (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes H.S.) represented UW-Superior as the Yellowjackets' recipient of the UMAC Sportsmanship Award.
