Bethel 1, Yellowjackets 0
Coaches often talk about how there are games you win that you have no business winning, and then there are the games that you lose where you know you played well enough to win. The Yellowjackets, riding a four match winning streak into Saturday night's match against Bethel, learned a little about the latter.
Despite holding a 17-5 edge in shots attempted and a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal, the Yellowjackets, who outplayed Bethel for the majority of the match, saw their winning streak go by the wayside, falling 1-0.
All of the offense in the match came with just 26 seconds to play in the first half when David Kim scored for the Royals on a penalty kick.
Nick Osborn (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) (Rosemount, Minn.) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and made one save. His record now stands at 3-2 on the year. Chris Scott made five saves in the winning effort for Bethel.
Erik Nilsen (Duluth, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with five shots attempted in the match, while Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) had two shots on goal.
The Yellowjackets (7-3, 2-1 WIAC) will be on the road at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. on Tuesday, October 4. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please note that this match was originally scheduled to be played in Superior but was moved to St. Mary's due to field and scheduling issues.
