Titans turn back Yellowjackets

Salann Gilbert

Oshkosh 3, Yellowjackets 1

The Yellowjacket volleyball team, coming off its first conference win in over two years on Wednesday, was on the road on Friday night, playing at UW-Oshkosh.  The Titans entered the match with a 13-9 record overall and were in fifth place in the WIAC, one spot ahead of the Yellowjackets.

The first set was electric, with both teams on top of their respective games, but it was the Titans who came out on top.  In the second set, the Yellowjackets stepped up and evened the match.  The third set was all Titans and as they jumped ahead.  In the fourth set, it was another back-and-forth game, and the Yellowjackets held a 14-11 edge before the Titans went on an 8-1 run to salt the match away, the Yellowjackets falling by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 13-25 and 19-25.

It was another great match for the Yellowjackets, unfortunately the third set did them in.

Kitty Tynen (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) (Stillwater, Minn.) and Salann Gilbert (Solon Springs, Wis./Solon Springs) (Solon Springs, Wis.) led the Yellowjackets with seven kills apiece, and the team attacked at a percentage of just .074, well below where they were on Wednesday against River Falls.  Emily Kadlec (Mora, Minn./Mora) (Mora, Minn.) contributed six kills.  Keely Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko) (Esko, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with 21 set assists.  She had three service aces, which was tied for the team lead with Nikki Gosson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) (Mankato, Minn.)

On defense, Erin Booth (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville) (Baldwin, Wis.) led the Yellowjackets with 16 digs, while Deadrick added 14.

For Oshkosh, Morgan Liebetrau led the charge, coming away with six kills (and a .333 attack percentage) while leading the team with 49 set assists and adding 19 digs.

The Yellowjackets (11-9, 1-3 WIAC) are off until Wednesday, October 12 when they will play at UW-Eau Claire beginning at 7:00 p.m.
