La Crosse 2, Yellowjackets 0
Over the years, the Yellowjacket women's soccer program has seen some tough times. They are using the 2011 season, however, to serve notice that those days are fading and things are changing in Superior. Despite being outshot heavily on Saturday afternoon, the Yellowjackets remained in the game until the final buzzer, falling 2-0 at home to UW-La Crosse.
The Eagles outshot the Yellowjackets 25-6 in the match, including 17-3 in shots on goal, but they weren't able to gain separation until the closing minutes of the match.
Saskia Taylor scored on a corner kick at 29:27 to make it 1-0 Eagles. A second goal by Taylor, this time on the receiving end of a corner kick, at 77:42 to make the final score 2-0.
Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) (Anaheim, Calif.) was brilliant in goal, making 15 saves for the Yellowjackets. Sagan Pizzingrilli made three saves to get the shutout win for La Crosse. Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) (Hermantown, Minn.) had two of the three shots on goal for the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets (6-7, 0-4 WIAC) will be in action next on Wednesday, October 12 when they will host UW-River Falls at the Superior High School Soccer Complex. Play begins at 4:00 p.m.
