The Yellowjacket women's soccer team opened the 2011 season at home, taking on non-conference opponent Hamline University on Thursday afternoon. The Pipers scored a pair of goals early in the match and built a 3-0 lead by halftime and went on to a 5-0 victory over the Yellowjackets at the Superior High School Soccer Complex.
Jordan Sammons opened the scoring for the Pipers four minutes into the match and Aileen Scheibner scored just over two minutes later to make it 2-0. Scheibner scored twice and Sammons had a goal and an assist for the Pipers. Natalie Cooper had a goal and two assists for Hamline, who outshot the Yellowjackets 21-5 in the match.
Senior Andrea McKay (Proctor, Minn./Proctor) (Proctor, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with two shots on goal. Freshman Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) (Anaheim, Calif.) made her first collegiate start in goal for the Yellowjackets, finishing with nine saves.
The Yellowjackets (0-1 overall, 0-0 WIAC) return to action on Saturday, September 3 at noon, when they will take on Alverno College out of Milwaukee, Wis. at the Superior High School Soccer Complex.
