Box Score

Morris 4, Yellowjackets 1

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team was on the road for the first time this season, taking on Minnesota-Morris in a non-conference match on a hot September Saturday.  The Cougars proved to be anything but hospitable hosts, scoring early and in the match and then three times in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory over the Yellowjackets at Cougar Field.

Leah Parker opened the scoring for the Cougars, scoring on a rebound at 12:12 to make it 1-0.  The score stayed that way until early in the second half when Christina Mollan scored at 52:33 to make it 2-0.  Mollan added her second goal of the match, and the season, at 69:56 to stretch the lead to 3-0.  Minutes later, however, the Yellowjackets finally broke through.  Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) (Hermantown, Minn.), on an assist from Jennifer Bucci (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) (Duluth, Minn.), scored her sixth goal of the year to make it 3-1 at 71:17.  The Cougars would close out the scoring at 80:50 when Ally Heida scored on a penalty kick to make the final score 4-1.

Cossin led the Yellowjackets with three shots and had both of the team's shots on goal in the match.  Her six goals leads the team and accounts for half of the team's offensive output on the season.

Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) (Fergus Falls, Minn.) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and took the loss, evening her record at 1-1 on the year.  Hatlewick made two saves for the Yellowjackets, who were outshot 15-6 on the day.

The Yellowjackets (2-2, 0-0 WIAC) will get their first taste of WIAC play coming up on Wednesday, September 14 when they will travel to Eau Claire to take on the Blugolds at 5:00 p.m.
