Yellowjackets Drop Tough One to Stout

Kalea Hatlewick
Box Score

Stout 3, Yellowjackets 0

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team returned home on Saturday, hosting UW-Stout at the Superior High School Soccer Complex.  One of the tightest games of the season, the Yellowjackets seemed poised to pick up the conference win at home, but the Blue Devils had other ideas, scoring one in the first half and twice in the second en route to a 3-0 win.

A fairly even first half saw the Blue Devils outshoot the Yellowjackets 9-5 and score the lone goal of the half when Courtney Tideman scored on an assist from Grace Salwasser at 24:28 to make it 1-0.  The score went to 2-0 at 58:37 when Tideman scored her second of the match.  Knifing her way through the defense, Tideman reached the middle of the field and lofted a shot up over Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) (Fergus Falls, Minn.).  Minutes later it went to 3-0 when Salwasser let a kick go from the left side that went off the hand of Hatlewick and into the goal to close out the scoring.  On the play, Hatlewick was injured and forced to leave the game, giving way to fellow freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) (Anaheim, Calif.).

Hatlewick finished the match with five saves in 69:21 of play.  Paige was not forced to make a save in the final 20:39.  Whitney Fenne made five saves to get the shutout for the Blue Devils.  The Yellowjackets were outshot 19-9 in the match, but shots on goal were a tight 8-5.  Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) (Hermantown, Minn.) and Whitney Zegarski (Osceola, Wis./Osceola) (Osceola, Wis.) had two shots on goal apiece for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets (2-4, 0-2 WIAC) will be traveling to Michigan's Upper Peninsula where they will take on Finlandia University in Hancock, Mich. on Thursday, September 21.  Game time is 4:00 p.m.
