Box Score

Yellowjackets 3, Hamline 2  OT

For the second time this season, the Yellowjackets watched one of their men's soccer matches head into overtime.  And for the second time this season, the Yellowjackets saw themselves come out on top.

Junior midfielder Nate Engel (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored his first goal of the season at 109:05 to give the sixth-ranked Yellowjackets a 3-2 double overtime victory over Hamline University in a seesaw match at Hamline's Paterson Field.

The Pipers broke through first when Greg Northrop scored his second goal of the season at 31:28 to make it 1-0.  The Yellowjackets tied the match at 40:04 when Logan George (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn.) sent the corner kick into play and Dan Warnke (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) was there to direct it home for his second goal of the season.

In the second half the Yellowjackets took their first lead of the match when George connected for his first goal of the year from short range to make it 2-1 at 76:28.  Richard Chegwin-Goelkel (Barranquilla, Colombia/German School) (Barranquilla, Colombia) and Thomas Shuldheisz (Andover, Minn./Andover) (Andover, Minn.) had the assists.  The edge was short-lived, however, as Hamline came back just minutes later deadlock the match.  Michael Murphy scored his first of the year with 10:28 to play in regulation to make it 2-2.

After going scoreless in the first overtime the game went to a second, setting the stage for Engel's heroics.

The Yellowjackets outshot Hamline 22-14 in the match and held a 13-7 edge in shots on goal.  Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) (New Hope, Minn.) got his second straight start in goal and got his second straight win, making fives saves to earn his fourth win of the season.  Zach Nelson and Spencer VonBehren combined to make ten saves for the Pipers.

The Yellowjackets (5-2, 0-1 WIAC) will look for their first conference win of the 2011 season when they travel to UW-Platteville for a match with the Pioneers on Sunday, September 25.  Game time from Pioneer Stadium is 2:00 p.m.
