Stevens Point 6, Yellowjackets 0

On Saturday the Yellowjackets traveled to the middle of the state, looking to notch a conference victory at UW-Stevens Point.  And despite being outshot handily in the first half, the Yellowjackets found themselves trailing just 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. 

In the second half, however, the Pointers showed why they were chosen in the pre-season to come away with the conference championship.  Scoring three times in the first 12 minutes of hte second half, Stevens Point blew the game wide open en route to a 6-0 victory at home.

Jessica Ruch did much of the damage for the Pointers, scoring three times and adding an assist in the second half.  Angela Gallow added a goal in each half and Kim Jobke had a goal and an assist to lead Stevens Point.

Gallow's first goal of the match came at 9:13 to make it 1-0.  Ruch would then score twice in a span of 4:07 early in the second half to make it 3-0.  Gallow would add her second at 56:48 and Ruch completed the hat trick at 64:25 to make it 5-0.  Jobke closed out the scoring, making it 6-0, at 69:11.

The Pointers held a 21-2 edge in shots on goal.  Freshman Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) (Anaheim, Calif.) was great in goal for the Yellowjackets, finishing the match with 15 saves.  Brittany Marx and Mary Burch combined for the shutout for Stevens Point, making two saves.  Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) (Two Harbors, Minn.) had both shots on goal for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets (3-5, 0-3 WIAC) return home where they will take on Northland International University on Monday, September 26.  Game time from the Superior High School Soccer Complex will be 4:00 p.m.
