Stevens Point 3, Yellowjackets 1
The Yellowjacket volleyball team was in Stevens Point on Saturday, looking to rebound from Friday's loss at UW-Whitewater. Instead, they found the going rough on the road once again and suffered their third consecutive loss and second in conference play, falling 3-1 to the Pointers by scores of 17-25, 25-19, 30-28 and 17-25.
Nikki Gosson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) (Mankato, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with 11 kills, the only Yellowjacket to reach double figures on offense. Her .323 attack percentage also led the team, which had a collective percentage of .096. Jessica Zimmerman (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) (Monticello, Minn.) had nine kills.
Keely Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko) (Esko, Minn.) had a team-high 27 set assists. On defense she also contributed 15 digs, second only to Farrah Wirtz (Esko, Minn./Esko) (Esko, Minn.) who had 26, a high for both teams. Rachel Langer (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) (Ellsworth, Wis.) had four block assists in the match. As a team, the Yellowjackets had six blocks, compared to ten for Stevens Point.
The Yellowjackets (8-6, 0-2 WIAC) will head to Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the "River City Classic," hosted by the University of Dubuque, on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1. Their first match will be against MIAC-rival Hamline on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. before playing Coe College at 8:00 p.m. They will play St. Mary's University and the University of Dubuque on Saturday.
