The Yellowjackets failed to put an exclamation point on their first home weekend series in two months as the Green Knights St. Norbert College eeked out a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena.

The Green Knights came out proving that last night's game was a fluke as they collected four straight shots right quickly after the opening faceoff.  The  Yellowjackets got the game's first power play thanks to a tripping penalty called on St. Norbert's Tara Frey at 5:52 of the period, and things started to turn around as they produced five unanswered shots.  The best scoring opportunity for the Yellowjackets came at 11:12 when Jenn Paul (Paynesville, Minn./Paynnesville) dished the puck to a wide open Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) at the red line and she went in for a breakaway, but her shot was turned away by St. Norbert goaltender Katie Aluia.  The Yellowjackets went on to outshoot the Green Knights 11-7 in the game's opening period but the game remained deadlocked at 0-0.

Both squads continued to struggle to find the net during the beginning stages of the second period.  The Yellowjackets had a hard time keeping their sticks off St. Norbert and Kiara DeKezel took a tripping penalty in the period's opening minute.  That was the fifth tripping penalty on the weekend for the Yellowjackets.  As soon as both teams were back to 5-on-5, the Yellowjackets produced a few solid scoring opportunities.  At 16:46, Paul took the puck off the board and found a wide open DeKezel at the top right circle.  She skated in and took a wrist shot that was stopped by Aluia.  About a minute later, Jenna Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) skated up the middle and took a shot that hit the left goal post.  The Green Knights eventually took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Henriette Ostergaard at 12:34.  The Yellowjackets managed to outshoot the Green Knights 9-8 to close out the second period but went into the third period trailing.

It was evident the first two periods of hard play wore both teams down in the third period as neither team was able to manage to find the back of the net.  Sticking penalties continued to haunt the Yellowjackets as Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) was called for a trip at 3:43 of the third period.  Despite another power play opportunity for the Yellowjackets at 11:32 of the third period, and having an extra attacker during the final 55 seconds of the game, they could hardly muster any shots on goal during those times.  The Yellowjackets still came up on top in the shot department 7-6.

Yellowjacket goaltender Amy Torgerson (Wentzville, Mo./Gilmour Academy) was respectable in net turning away 20 shots while St. Norbert's Katie Aluia recorded the shutout with 27 saves.

The homestand was a quick one and the Yellowjackets will hit the road to Mequon, Wis to take on the Falcons from Concordia University on Friday January 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday January 21 at 2:00 p.m.
