UW-Eau Claire 5, Yellowjackets 1
Box Score

A slow start by the Yellowjackets that saw them give up three goals in the first ten minutes of the match cost them.  The Blugolds started to coast there after, only scoring two more goals for the rest of the match as they beat the Yellowjackets 5-1.

The Blugolds came out strong from the get go and Gina Williams was a big reason why as she had possession of the ball in the middle of the field and took it up toward the goal.  Yellowjacket goalkeeper Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) came far out of the net to try to break up Williams, but Williams juked Paige out and tapped the ball in the net to give the Blugolds a 1-0 lead.  The goal assisted by Kara Ryan came in the second minute.  Williams added another goal a minute later when she put home a header off a free kick by Ryan to make the score 2-0.

It didn't take Williams long for her to register a hat trick in the game when she took a pass to the right side from Ryan.  Williams did the rest of the work, firing a shot that beat Paige to her right to make the score 3-0 in the 11th minute.  The Blugolds made it 4-0 when Paige LeGate took possession of the ball of a shot by Allie Stone that was saved by Paige.  LeGate booted the rebound home past Paige to extend the Blugold lead to 4-0 in the 16th minute.

The Yellowjackets answered :13 later when Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) took a shot that was saved by Blugold goalkeeper Nina Behrenbrinker, who was far out in front of the net.  Mallory Engen (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson ) took the shot that bounced off Behrenbrinker and fired it home to narrow the Blugold lead to 4-1.

The only scoring that took place in the second half was when Williams added her fourth goal of the game in the 48th minute.  She was assisted by Ryan and LeGate on the play that closed out the game's scoring.

Paige and Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) combined for 12 saves for the Yellowjackets while Behrenbrinker didn't register a save for the Blugolds.

The Yellowjackets (2-8, 0-6 WIAC) will return to Superior High School on Wednesday (Oct. 3rd) where they will face North Central University.  Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
