Box Score

The Yellowjackets gave the Lions from Finlandia University a run for their money as they cruised to a 9-0 victory.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute when Shelby Coombs (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia ) took a ball that bounced off a Lions defender.  She finished the job, firing a shot that beat Lions goalkeeper Stephanie D'Ettorre to the right.  The Yellowjackets didn't look back an inch from there on out as they scored four more goals to close out the half.  McKenzie Krohn (Green Bay, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) scored her first career goal in the 16th minute when she shot at virtually a wide open net to make the score 2-0.  Samantha Nelson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor ) tallied a goal a minute later to widen the Yellowjacket lead to 3-0.  Mallory Engen (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson ) and Coombs were credited with the assist on the play.

Rachel Wallace (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia) added a goal when she fired a shot that caught D'Ettorre flat footed to extend the score to 4-0.  Wallace was unassisted on the play.  The scoring for the half would close in the 44th minute when Jada Wong fed a perfect ball over to Ana Morse (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central) on the right side where she would finish to make the score 5-0.  The Yellowjackets outshot the Lions 23-1 through the first half.

The second half proved to be no different than the first half as the Yellowjackets dominated from start to finish.  In fact, the shot production went up as the girls in black and yellow added eight more shots for a total of 32 in the second half.  However, the Yellowjackets came up with four goals to make the score final at 9-0.  Coombs and Morse added their second goals of the game in the 48th and 69th minute respectively.  Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and Sarah Johnson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) closed out the scoring for the game in the 78th and 88th minute.

Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) didn't need to make a save while D'Ettorre stopped 24 shots for the Lions.

The Yellowjackets (4-10, 0-6 WIAC) will return to WIAC play tomorrow (Oct. 13th) where they will travel to UW-La Crosse to take on the Eagles.  Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
