Box Score

Before entering the conference season, the Yellowjackets were off to a strong 12-2 start to the 2012 volleyball season. However, WIAC play is a slightly different thing than non-conference action, and since conference play has started, the Yellowjackets have gone 2-6, including an 0-3 record in conference.

In the game against the UW-River Falls Falcons the Yellowjackets battled for the lead but struggled to take control. The first set of the night was the closest as the Yellowjackets would fall 25-23, on 15 kills and four errors. In the second set the Yellowjackets once again were haunted by errors, as they had eight and an attacking percentage of.000.  They would fall to the Falcons 25-18 in the set. In an attempt to get back in the game, the Yellowjackets would put together their best offensive surge of the night. On only 26 attempts, the Yellowjackets would get 12 kills with four errors for a respectable attacking percentage of .308 in the third set, but the Falcons again had all of the answers, and cruised to the victory.

Throughout the night, it was Nikki Gosson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Salann Gilbert (Solon Springs, Wis./Solon Springs) that would create the majority of the offense for the Yellowjackets, as they combined for 18 of the Yellowjackets' 35 kills. They were assisted by Keely Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko) who hoisted up 24 assists in the game.  On the defensive side, the Yellowjackets would combine for a total of 42 digs, led by Farrah Wirtz (Esko, Minn./Esko) who had 12. As a team, they would also come together to have 6.5 blocks on the night.

Friday night, October 5, the Yellowjackets (14-8, 0-3 WIAC) will host the Titans of UW-Oshkosh at 7:00 p.m. at Mertz Mortorelli Gym. The Yellowjackets will be also be raising money for brest cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink along with the Yellowjackets as the wear their, "Dig Pink" jerseys. UW-Superior will have a great opportunity to get their first conference win of the season, as the Titans are 0-2 in WIAC play. Both teams will be battling to get out of the WIAC cellar.
