Box Score

The Yellowjackets held their own throughout the course of the game after taking a 1-0 lead early on in the contest.  However, a late goal by UW-Whitewater sealed the Yellowjackets' fate as they settled to a 1-1 draw.

Things got to be exciting early on for the Yellowjackets, despite the fact that they were outshot 3-0 going into the first five minutes of the contest.  That excitement was built when Alberto Rivero (Santander, Spain/) dished a pass to Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) in the middle of the field where he let a shot go that hit the top of Warhawk goalkeeper Matt Mikesell's finger tips.  The ball got behind Mikesell and barely crossed the goal line to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

From there on out the Warhawks controlled the tempo of the game, outshooting the Yellowjackets 22-10.  It was fairly physical throughout the course of the game as the Yellowjackets and Warhawks traded Yellow cards.  The Yellowjackets caught breaks until the 82nd minute when Logan Fye found the ball in front of the net in a traffic jam of players.  He somehow squeaked a shot that Yellowjacket goalkeeper Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) couldn't see to knot the game at a goal a piece.

The game continued to get more physical as three more Yellow cards were handed out late in regulation and in overtime.  All of which came at the expense of the Yellowjackets.

Elder came up with eight saves for the Yellowjackets while Mikesell clocked in with four saves for the Warhawks.

The Yellowjackets (7-5-1, 1-1-1 WIAC) will hit the road to Ashland, Wis. on Tuesday (Oct. 9th) to take on Northland College.  Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
