The jitters that come along with the first home conference game got the best of the Yellowjackets.  They failed to find that spark that would help them take off as they got shutout 4-0 by UW-River Falls.

The Falcons came right out of the gates when they took advantage of an interference call on Yellowjacket defenseman Kaiti Graham (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg).  The Falcons controlled the tempo of the power play when Allie Olson took possession of the puck down in the corner and passed it to Brook Story at the top of the right circle.  She fed the puck down to Crysta Lowell in front of the net where she finished the job to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 4:16 of the first period.  The Yellowjackets held the Falcons in check for the remainder of the first period; however that went by the way side early in the second period.  Falcon forward Kait Mason was a huge reason why when she took a pass from Taylor Guzzo from the blue line and let a wrist shot go past Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) to give them a 2-0 lead at 6:12 of the second period.

The Yellowjackets continued to struggle finding the net throughout the course of the final two periods despite four power play chances.  The difference was that the Falcons were able to capitalize on those chances.  Alyssa Black added a goal at 8:02 of the third period to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.  The Falcons went on to take a 4-0 lead, capitalizing on their second power play goal of the game.  This time it was Story letting a wrist shot go past Peter's glove side at 12:51 of the third period.

Peters came up with 19 saves for the Yellowjackets while Falcon goaltender Ashley Kuechle stopped 18 shots.

Box Score

The Yellowjackets came out feeling like they had something to prove after a 4-0 debacle the night before.  The thing they proved was that they can play with any team, anytime and anyplace as they came up on top 2-1 over UW-River Falls.

Responding was the name of the game today, who ever responded better was going to win the game.  The Yellowjackets had to answer the bell after Alyssa Back gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead on the power play at 10:55 of the first period.  They were on the road to doing just that at 16:05 of the second period when Graham dished a pass down to Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) at the right wing.  She then swung a pass across to Chelsey Wierschem (Willmar, Minn./Willmar), where she put home a wrist shot the tie the game at a goal a piece on the power play.

The Yellowjackets had to respond once again, and that's exactly what they did midway through the third period.  This time it was Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) coming up with the game-winning-goal at 7:08 of the third period to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.  Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) got the assist on the play.

Peters made 25 saves for the Yellowjackets while Falcon goaltender Gillian McDonald turned away 26 shots.

The Yellowjackets (4-3, 2-2 NCHA) will return to action on Friday (Nov. 16th) at Wessman Arena where they will take on Concordia University Wisconsin.  Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
