Box Score

The Yellowjackets start the conference season on a sour note, coming up short against UW-Eau Claire 5-4.

The Blugolds took a 1-0 lead at 10:29 of the first period when Stephanie Hatcher put home a wrist shot from the slot.  The Yellowjackets came up big while on the penalty kill later in the first period.  Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) blocked a shot and took possession of the puck and went the distance, beating Blugold goaltender Paige Turner on her right to tie the game at a goal a piece at 18:14.  Chelsey Wierschem (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) would build on that momentum at 11:07 of the second period, putting a slap shot home to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.  Bailey Lane (Armada, Mich./Armada) extended the lead at 14:56 of the second period when she took a pass from Ashley Birdsall (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) back deep.  She would take a slap shot that beat Turner to extend the lead to 3-1.

Tory Heller answered for the Blugolds at 16:45 of the second period on an unassisted goal to make the score 3-2.  The Yellowjackets responded on the power play at 2:13 of the third period when Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) took a shot from the top of the left circle to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 4-2.  However, the penalty kill doomed the Yellowjackets for the rest of the game as the Blugolds capitalized on three power play goals en route to a 5-4 win.  Emily Larson, Dani Kerr, and Sam Knutson each scored the three power play goals for the Blugolds.

Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) made 25 saves for the Yellowjackets while Turner stopped 31 shots for the Blugolds.
