Box Score

Not only did the Yellowjackets return from Thanksgiving break in style with a win over St. Catherine College on Tuesday, they did the same in the conference play variety in a 5-1 win over Lake Forest College this afternoon.

The Foresters were the ones that set the tone early in the first period.  Morgan Pope had a lot to do with that when she took a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Yellowjacket goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) to give the Foresters a 1-0 lead 2:07 into the game.  That was enough fuel the Yellowjackets needed as they went on to score five unanswered goals for the balance of the game.  Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) got the attack started when she took a perfect feed from Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) down in front of the net.  The puck went off Mayhew's stick and into the net to tie the game at a goal a piece on the power play at 9:04 of the first period.

The second period proved to be a strong one for the Yellowjackets, coming up with three goals in the process.  Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) tacked on a goal off a nice pass from Bailey Lane (Armada, Mich./Armada) at the point to make the score 2-1 at 3:34 of the second period.  Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) added another goal at 16:19 of the second period off a slap shot from the top of the left circle to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 3-1.  The Yellowjackets weren't finished for the period as Kelsey Firkus (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Chilliwack Senior Secondary) banged home a shot in front of the net at 19:33 of the second period to push the Yellowjacket lead to 4-1.

The icing on the cake came on the power play at 14:01 of the third period when Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area)  put home a wrist shot on a saucer pass from Mayhew to make the score 5-1.

Peters made 32 saves for the Yellowjackets while Auriana Johnson stopped 28 shots for the Foresters.

The Yellowjackets (8-3, 5-2 NCHA) will look to sweep the Foresters tomorrow (Dec. 7th) at 1:00 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill.
