Yellowjackets skate to a 3-3 tie with Marian

SUPERIOR,Wis.—The Yellowjackets found themselves flirting with danger in the opening stages of the contest when last place Marian University took a 1-0 lead 2:18 into the first period.  That goal gave the Sabres confidence going forward when Alex DeBoer gave them a 2-0 lead 2:22 later on the power play.  Marian took that lead going into the locker room.  The Yellowjackets outshot the Sabres 14-8 in the first period despite being down.
 
The Yellowjackets answered 6:39 into the second period on a Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) goal to cut Marian's lead in half, making it 2-1.  The goal was Kaskiw's first collegiate goal.  Marian's power play would continue to haunt the Yellowjackets going forward when Marian's Rachel Mullendore put home a shot with the extra skater to give Marian a 3-1 lead.
 
The Yellowjackets answered less than two minutes later when Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) scored her first collegiate goal to make it 3-2 at 11:10 of the second period.  That fueled the Yellowjackets for the balance of second period as Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) eventually tied the game at three goals apiece at 17:43 of the second where things would stay.
 
Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) got the start for the Yellowjackets making 20 saves.  Amanda Alexander and Kaitlyn Ruzicka combined for 49 saves for Marian University.
 
The Yellowjackets (12-5-3) (10-3-2 NCHA) will be back in action tomorrow (Feb.4) against Marian University.  The puck will drop at 2:00 p.m.
