Box Score

The Yellowjacket women's soccer team failed to find any rhythm out of the gates, dropping game one of the 2012 season 7-1 at Lincoln Middle School in Duluth, Minn.

Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) saw plenty of action, seeing a total of 28 shots for the game with 17 of those being on goal.  The first shot on goal taken by St. Catherine unfortunately went in when Christina Paik put them up 1-0 in the game's opening minute.  St. Kate's scored again 17 minutes later when Brianna Coulter put a shot home to make the score 2-0.  The Wildcats' closed out the scoring for the first half in the 38th minute when Lensa Gurmessa made the score 3-0 on a shot about 30 yards out on the right side.  St. Catherine outshot the Yellowjackets 13-2 in the first half.

St. Catherine went on to score two more goals in the second half before a Yellowjacket shot went off a Wildcat player and somehow found its way into the net.  Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) was rewarded the goal as she was the last Yellowjacket to touch the ball to narrow the Wildcat lead to 5-1.  Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) assisted on the goal.  St. Catherine closed out the game's scoring when Gurmessa registered a hat trick in the 80th minute to make the score 6-1.  Paik also finished the game with a multi-goal afternoon when she put away her second goal of the game to make things 7-1.

Hatlewick finished with ten saves while Danielle Mendez and Kristina Schurhammer combined for two saves.  St. Catherine outshot the Yellowjackets 28-6 to end the game.  The Yellowjackets return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 4th) when they will travel to St. Bonifacious, Minn. to face Crown College.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
