The Yellowjackets traveled to the U.P. and ousted the Lions from Finlandia University by a score of 7-0 to pick up their first WIAC win of the 2012 season.

Time wasn't wasted out of the gates when Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) took a shot off a solid pass by Tyler DeHut (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) that found its way to the back of the net to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead about five minutes in.  The assist was DeHut's first point as a Yellowjacket.  Royce picked up another point when he dished a helper to John Levenick (Champlin, Minn./Champlin), where he would do the rest to put the Yellowjackets up 2-0 in the 20th minute.

Ben Kasper (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) added his second goal of the season about three minutes into the second half when he shot a laser from about twenty yards out to make the score 3-0.  Mitch Wilkinson (Wolverhampton, England/Kingswinford School) assisted on the goal.  Levenick would add his second goal of the game off a penalty kick to make things 4-0 in the 49th minute.

The Yellowjackets added three more goals to close out the game, two of those goals were firsts for a pair of Yellowjackets.  One of them was Tadd Speaks (Sartell, Minn./Sartell), who put a shot home in the 50th minute to make the score 5-0.  It wouldn't be too long before it was 6-0 when Nate Engel (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) tallied his second goal of the season six minutes later.  Dan Baga (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) also picked up his first goal as a Yellowjacket in the 78th minute things 7-0.

Connor Iverson (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) got his first start in net for the Yellowjackets, making three saves while Finlandia goalkeeper Brett Deiter came up with ten saves.

The Yellowjackets (4-2, 1-0 WIAC) will hit the road on Monday (Sept. 17) when they will travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on the University of St. Thomas. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
