Yellowjackets come up short against #4 Loras College

The Yellowjackets went into their first test of the 2012 season putting up a fight against #4 Loras College, but came up short by a score of 2-1.
 
Loras had the Yellowjackets on egg shells early on when Erik Berkowitz took a header saved by Yellowjacket goalkeeper Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) one minute into the match.  That fueled Berkowitz fire as he took another header about three minutes in, this time it got past Elder to give the Duhawks an early 1-0 lead.  It was all Duhawks for the remainder of the first half as Johnny Rummelhart added his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute off a rebound by Mitch Burgmeier to make the score 2-0.
 
The Yellowjackets showed resurgence going into the second half after being outshot 12-4 in the first half.  That resurgence was set by Ben Kasper (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) when he took the ball down the field on the right side.  He set up Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) with a perfect cross pass in front of the net that Duhawk goalkeeper Dylan Milkent had no chance to save to cut the Loras lead in half at 2-1.  Unfortunately, that was the high point for the Yellowjackets in the second half as the Duhawks went on to outshoot the Yellowjackets 7-4 for the balance of the game.
 
Elder clocked in with six saves for the Yellowjackets while Milkent only needed to register one save to secure his team's victory.
 
The Yellowjackets (6-3, 0-0 WIAC) will return home to the Superior High School field to take on the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran College.  Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
