Bethany Lutheran 4, Yellowjackets 2
Box Score

The Yellowjackets comeback late in the second half fell short, losing 4-2 to the Vikings from Bethany Lutheran College in the process.

The Vikings got off to a fast start in the sixth minute when Paige Taylor set up Morica Reinsch with a picture perfect cross pass.  Reinsch finished the job to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.  Momentum was gained by the Vikings on a corner kick in the 18th minute by Kathryn Scislow.  Maggie LaPlante took possession of the corner kick and let a shot trickle pass Yellowjacket goalkeeper Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) to widen the Viking lead to 2-0.  The score was 3-0 five minutes later when Taylor let a shot go from about 20 yards out that rainbowed over Hatlewick's head and in the net.  LaPlante added her second goal of the game in the 24th minute off of a rocket pass by Scislow to make the score 4-0.

Despite the bounces going the Viking's way, the Yellowjackets outshot them 9-6 to close out the first half.

The bounces started to go in the way of the Yellowjackets late in the game.  Sarah Johnson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) picked up the team when she boomed a shot over to Mallory Engen (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson ).  Engen took the ball up field and let a laser shot go in the net to narrow the deficit to 4-1 in the 85th minute.  That goal fueled Engen when she took a shot that was rebounded by Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) in front of the net.  She banged the shot home to make the score 4-2 one minute later.

Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) and Hatlewick combined for four saves for the Yellowjackets while Alexa Mowery came up with six saves for Bethany Lutheran.

The Yellowjackets (2-6, 0-3 WIAC) will continue their quest for their first conference win at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth, Minn. against UW-Stevens Point on Saturday (Sept. 29th).  Game time is at 2:00 p.m.
