Titans capture the win over Yellowjackets

With the WIAC moving back to the “play each conference team once” format, this was the only shot the Yellowjackets had to knock off one of the three premiere teams in the conference.  UW-Oshkosh is one of those teams.  However, the Titans proved to be too much as they scored two goals within the last 14 minutes of the match to lock up a 2-0 victory.   
 
The first half was all Yellowjackets as they outshot the Titans 10-5.  The men in black and yellow as the great Wiz Khalifa would put it, controlled the tempo of the match throughout the half. 
 
However, things flip-flopped once the second half rolled around with UW-Oshkosh having the ball in their court.  Like the Yellowjackets, the Titans produced ten shots in their half of dominance.  Only difference being that two of those shots found its way into the net for the Titans.  The first shot going in the net came from Jonathan Stanley, he took possession of the ball that was deflected off of a Yellowjacket defender in front of the net.  The ball somehow found Stanley's foot, and then he lasered it passed Yellowjacket goalkeeper Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) to give the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute. 
 
The momentum continued to go the Titans way more when Sean Boulanger booted a pass over to Hans Becker on the right side.  Becker got the job done in the open field, firing a shot passed Elder to make the score 2-0 six minutes later.
 
Elder finished the game with four saves while Nick Barry clocked in with six saves.
 
The Yellowjackets (7-4, 1-1 WIAC) will return to non-conference play at Lincoln Middle School in Duluth, Minn. on Tuesday (Oct. 2) where they will face the University of Minnesota-Morris.  Game time is a 4:00 p.m.
