Coming off a cushy four week break from action, the Yellowjackets hit the road on a 12 hour bus ride to Adrian, Michigan to take on the Bulldogs from Adrian College.  The Yellowjackets failed to capitalize in the first game of the long trip as they fell 4-3 in overtime to the Bulldogs.

Adrian set the tone first, scoring the first three goals of the contest.  Devyn Fitzhenry provided the first spark for the Bulldogs on a feed from Lauren Zachwieja from the left circle.  She would bury the puck past Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at 12:18 of the first period.  Adrian continued the goal scoring attack in the first period when Audrey Noles snuck a shot from the right circle that beat Peters on the glove side to extend the Bulldog lead to 2-0.

Fitzhenry wasn't done, she continued to dig deeper in the Yellowjacket wound when she added her second goal of the game off a pass from Danielle Smith from the top of the left circle to widen the Adrian lead to 3-0.  The goal came at 3:21 of the second period.

This time, it was the Yellowjackets' turn to register three unanswered goals.  It was Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) that struck first for the Yellowjackets, taking a shot from in front of the net to narrow the margin to 3-1.  Her line mate's, Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and Alison Shrift (Traverse City, Mich./West High School), got the assists on the goal that came at 16:08 of the second period.  The Yellowjackets waited until the third period to notch their second goal of the game when Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) added her third goal of the season to narrow the Bulldog lead to 3-2 at 2:05.  At that point in the game, someone needed to be the hero if the Yellowjackets were to take the game into overtime.  Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) proved to be that hero when she tied the game at three goals a piece while the Yellowjackets were shorthanded on a Shrift roughing penalty.  The shorthanded goal came at 9:44 of the third period.

Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets weren't able to carry their momentum into overtime, only coming up with one shot on goal.  The Bulldogs were only able to come up with one shot on goal as well, but that shot would go in the net to give Adrian College the 4-3 win in overtime.  Courtney Millar was the one who put that shot past Peters to lift the Bulldogs to victory in NCHA action.

The Yellowjackets (8-5, 5-4 NCHA) will look to get revenge on the Bulldogs tomorrow (Jan. 12th) in Adrian, Mich.  Puck drop is at 2:00 p.m. (EST.).
