Box Score
Yellowjackets 2, Gustavus Adolphus 2
The Yellowjackets came into this season with the realization that absolutely no slip ups can occur due to the fact there is no automatic qualifier to fall back on. Their play throughout the first four games showed that those realizations have hit home. As a result, the Yellowjackets continue their undefeated season with a 2-2 tie against Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday afternoon. Â
The Yellowjackets proved to be the fast starters once again, opening the game with three shots on goal. After the adrenaline started to flow a bit, the puck found the back of the net when Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) added her third goal of the season at 5:11 of the first period to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. Â
The Gusties had an answer when Allison Eder-Zdechlik capitalized on a power play goal at 14:16 of the first period to tie the game 1-1. It wouldn't take the Gusties much longer to build on that momentum from the power play. Amanda Cartony gave the Gusties a 2-1 lead at 16:52 of the first period.
Playing down and coming up big at critical times is nothing new to the Yellowjackets. Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) was a big reason why when she took a solid pass from Olmstead and let a wrist shot go that beat Gusties goaltender Tara Hoverstad to tie the game 2-2 at 16:14 of the second period. Â
Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) finished with 41 saves for the Yellowjackets while Hoverstad clocked in with 27 stops for the Gusties.
The Yellowjackets (3-0-1, 0-0 WIAC) will travel to UW-Eau Claire on Friday, Nov. 15 to take on the Blugolds. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
