Box Score
UW-River Falls 5, Yellowjackets 2
The Yellowjackets returned to action after Thanksgiving break looking to capitalize on WIAC opponents. That wouldn't be the case during this particular night as UW-River Falls defeated the Yellowjackets 5-2.
The Falcons got on the board first when Kait Mason beat Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) top shelf to make the score 1-0 at 6:31 of the first period. Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) answered for the Yellowjackets on the power play at 9:15 of the first period. She took control of the puck in Yellowjacket territory and skated up the ice by herself and put home a wrap around goal to tie the game at a goal a piece. Â
That wouldn't be enough as the Falcons went on to score three goals to give them a comfortable 4-1 lead early in the third period. The Yellowjacket power play came up strong once again at 14:08 of the third period when Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) took a pass from Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) at the point and fired a slap shot home to make the score 4-2. Brianna Breiland put the icing on the cake for the Falcons with a goal at 18:24 of the third period to give them a 5-2 lead and eventual victory.
Peters finished with 19 saves for the Yellowjackets while Ashley Kuechle came up with 25 stops for the Falcons.
The Yellowjackets (5-2-2, 2-1 WIAC) will look for revenge against the Falcons tomorrow at Hunt Arena in River Falls. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
