Box Score
Yellowjackets 2, UW-River Falls 2
The Yellowjackets came into Saturday's game looking for revenge on the Falcons from UW-River Falls. The Yellowjackets knew they had their hands full considering the Falcons made it to the NCAA quarterfinals a season ago. The Yellowjackets held their own despite being out shot by a margin of 2:1, skating to a 2-2 draw.
It took both teams to get the juices flowing out of the gates as both teams came up empty during the first period of play. The second period proved to be a different story with the Yellowjackets setting the bar. Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) helped set that bar with a power play goal with the help of Haly Olmstead to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead at 3:11 of the second period. The Falcons matched the Yellowjackets' power play success this weekend with a goal by Paige Johnson to knot the game at a goal a piece at 10:46 of the second period. That fueled the Yellowjackets in the third period when Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) capitalized on an even strength goal at 4:47 of the third period to give them a 2-1 lead. However, Chloe Kinsel put a damper in the Yellowjackets' hopes when she put a shot past Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) at 14:51 of the third period to tie the game at two goals a piece.
Peters made 41 saves for the Yellowjackets while Ashley Kuechle stopped 16 shots for the Falcons.
The Yellowjackets (5-2-3, 0-1-1 WIAC) will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to take on Augsburg College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
