Box Score

The Yellowjackets were able to add to the damage they did to Finlandia University on Friday night by putting up an astounding 55 shots.  Despite peppering more shots on Lions goaltender Branna Hynes, the women in black and yellow were only able to notch six goals en route to a 6-0 victory.

Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) set the tempo for the Yellowjackets early when she took a pass from Hayley Epema (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) down in front of the net.  She finished the job with a goal at 3:57 of the first period to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  The Yellowjackets found success on the power play when Kaiti Graham (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg) passed the puck from the point over to Haley Olmstead (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North) where she skated around a few defenders and fired a wrist shot to the back of the net to make the score 2-0.  The power play goal came at 17:33 of the first period.

Despite many scoring chances in the second period, the Yellowjackets only came up with one goal in the second period.  Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) continued her dominance of Finlandia from the night before with a goal at 19:20 of the second period to make the score 3-0.

The Yellowjackets doubled up in the goal category in the third period with three.  Larson added her second goal of the game when she split the defense and went in on a 2-on-0 breakaway and finished with a backhander to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 4-0.  That goal came at 11:13 of the third period.  De Kezel was next in line to add her second goal of the contest with a wrist shot that went top shelf on Hynes to make the score 5-0 at 17:25 of the third period.  Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) closed out the game's scoring when she was in a scrum in front of the net and somehow poked a shot home to make the score 6-0 at 18:42 of the third period.

Hynes came up with 49 saves for Finlandia University while Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate CV&I) stopped eight shots for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets (16-7-2, 13-6-1 NCHA) locked up the #4 seed in the NCHA O'Brien Cup Playoffs.  They will host #5 St. Norbert College in the quarterfinals on Friday (Feb. 22nd) at 7:00 p.m.
