Box Score

The Yellowjackets were able to hold their own against the nation's number one team in an all-around up and down game.  Every statistical category was fairly even between the Gusties and Yellowjackets in a 1-1 tie game.

The Gusties took a 1-0 lead at 13:27 of the first period when Megan Wanecke dished a solid pass over to Melissa Doyle at the right circle.  She would take a shot that caught every player on the ice off guard, including Yellowjacket goaltender Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate CV&I)

A fire was light under the Yellowjackets at 9:42 of the second period when Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) was tagged for a cross-check.  Alison Shrift (Traverse City, Mich./West High School) blocked a Gustie shot at the Yellowjacket end and recovered the puck and took it up the ice.  She fired a shot at the left circle that was rebounded by Kelsey Firkus (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Chilliwack Senior Secondary), who snuck a wrist shot between Gustie goaltender Lindsey Hibbard's glove and left post to knot the game at a goal a piece.  The shorthanded goal came at 11:20 of the second period.

With the tie, the Yellowjackets spoiled #1 Gustavus Adolphus' perfect record, sending them to 18-0-1.

Leikkari make 25 saves for the Yellowjackets while Hibbard stopped 24 shots for the Gusties.

The Yellowjackets (12-7-2, 9-6-1 NCHA) will return to action when they travel to UW-Stevens Point on Friday (Feb. 5th).  Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
