Box Score

All the Yellowjackets have been doing is showing the world that they can play with any team in the country.  They continued to showcase that in a 5-2 win over UW-Stevens Point this afternoon.

Starting the game off fast has been an ingredient for success in Yellowjacket country.  That ingredient was successful on this given contest when Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) let a wrist shot go from the side of the left circle to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead at 3:10 of the first period.  Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) continued to fuel the Yellowjackets early in the contest when Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) fed the puck over to her at the right side of the left circle.  De Kezel would juke out a few defenders and let a wrist shot beat Pointer goaltender Hillary Drake at 5:22 of the first period to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0.

The Pointers answered the bell before the first intermission when Josie Johnson's goal cut the Yellowjacket lead in half at 2-1.  A come back was starting to brew for the Pointers when Brooke Hanson tied the game at two goals a piece at 9:42 of the second period, but it was short-lived.  The Yellowjackets closed out the game with three unanswered goals, first one was a power play goal by Chelsey Wierschem (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) to give the Yellowjackets a 3-2 lead at 14:01 of the second period.

The last two goals for the Yellowjackets occurred in the third period.  Yellowjacket leading scorer Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) extended the Yellowjacket lead to 4-2 at 16:16 of the third period on a play that was set up to perfection by Alison Shrift (Traverse City, Mich./West High School).  The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring attack on a Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) goal at 17:32 of the third period to make the score 5-2.

Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate CV&I) blocked 33 shots for the Yellowjackets while Drake and Jenna Beilke-Skoug stopped 24 shots collectively.

The Yellowjackets (14-7-2, 11-6-1 NCHA) will return to Wessman Arena on Friday (Feb. 15th) when they take on Finlandia University.  Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
