After a promising exhibition match with St. Scholastica last weekend, the Yellowjacket women's soccer team took to the field for real on Friday afternoon, hosting Augsburg College in the first game of the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup, which the Yellowjackets co-host with the College of St. Scholastica.

A tentative Yellowjacket team fell behind early and was unable to recover, as the Auggies scored seven times in the first half on their way to a 10-1 win at the Superior Soccer Complex.

Augsburg started the scoring early when Olivia Muyres scored on an assist from Molly Allen just 2:16 in. Three minutes later the duo struck again and at 5:16 the Yellowjackets were down 2-0. Allen scored her first of the match a minute later and then Marie Fitzgerald followed with a pair to make it 5-0 with 14:20 gone in the half. Muyres completed the hat trick at 20:15 and four minutes later Taylor Kuramoto found the back of the net, closing out the first half scoring.

After Carter Denison scored for Augsburg midway through the second half the Yellowjackets finally broke through when freshman Miranda Garrelts (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) scored on a rebound to make it an 8-1 score. Following a corner kick Garrelts picked up a rebound and put home the first goal of her Yellowjacket career.

Augsburg bounced back and added two more goals in the closing minutes to make the final 10-1.

Kalea Hatlewick (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and finished the match with 11 saves. Her record stands at 0-1 on the year. At the other end Katie Gajewski played the first half without making a save to pick up her first win of the season. Lucy Bukowski played the second half and made one save.

The Yellowjackets return to action on Saturday, August 31 when they host Loras College at the Superior Soccer Complex beginning at 1:30 p.m.
