The dry heat of Texas must suit the Yellowjacket volleyball team just fine.

After a pair of straight-set sweeps on Friday, the Yellowjackets endured a little more stress on Saturday, suriving a pair of five-set matches to pick up a pair of wins and finish off the Dallas Volleyball Invitational and head home with a perfect 4-0 record.

Yellowjackets 3, Millsaps 2
Box Score

In the most evenly played match of the tournament, the Yellowjackets overcame a 2-1 deficit to pick up the 3-2 win by scores of 25-27, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 and 15-9.

The opening set saw the teams swap leads throughout, eventually tying at 25 before Millsaps closed out the opening set. The second set was also even early, but the Yellowjackets blew things open and pulled away to even the match. The Yellowjackets opened the third set with a lead, but Millsaps chipped away and eventually overtook the Yellowjackets to take the set and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Yellowjackets evened the match in the fourth set when, tied at ten, they went on a 6-1 run to pull away. In the deciding frame, the Yellowjackets opened up on a 7-1 run and cruised to the victory.

Several players had big days in the opener. Kitty Tynen (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) had a team-high 16 kills to go along with 15 digs. Jessica Zimmerman (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) had 10 kills and 12 digs. Brooke Vonasek (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) continued her strong early-season play by contributing 15 digs.

Defensively Lauren Peterson (Deer River, Minn./Deer River) led the way with a match-high 28 digs. Keely Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko) and Chelsey Walerius (New Prague, Minn./Tri-City United) each added 15 digs.

Yellowjackets 3, Dallas 2
Box Score

For the second time in as many days the Yellowjackets met the tournament hosts, the Lobos from the University of Dallas. And for the second time in as many days they took one away from the home team, although Saturday's contest took a little more effort than the first.

The Yellowjackets fell behind early in the first set, trailing 10-5 rallying to take the opening frame 25-19. Dallas rebounded and took the second set 25-23 despite playing from behind for much of the set. The Yellowjackets regained their lead in the match with a comfortable 25-17 win in the third set, but Dallas came right back and took the fourth with a 25-19 win. In the fifth and deciding set, the teams kept things tight, always staying within four points of the other. With the score tied 10-10, the Yellowjackets scored five of the final six points to close out the match and get the victory.

It was another big match for Tynen, who finished with 14 kills and 20 digs. Alissa Autio (Floodwood, Minn./) had 15 kills, while Peterson had 23 more digs, both highs for the match. Deadrick again was a monster in the assist department with a game-high 48.
